Good morning friends! Hubby and I took the week off of work and it has been a welcome break in our normally scheduled programming. We planned a mostly staycation with thoughts of traveling if we felt like it, but I came down with a nasty cold on Saturday (womp womp), so our plans ended up staying close to home (and the kleenex supply).
Over the week, I definitely spent some quality time on Instagram and found a few new accounts that I’m excited to follow. One of them is Caitlin from Lion and Lantern, and she recently posted this wonderful tutorial on her blog that I just had to share:

She is pretty darn good at calligraphy (this is a seriously gorgeous project!) and I was so excited about the prospect of having something so pretty in my house that I instantly grabbed a sketchbook and started attempting to replicate the look.
I spent about ten minutes on my attempt, before I told Ben, “soooo, I don’t think calligraphy is my spiritual gift…”
Joking aside though, I am pretty terrible. This project is kind of a “must have” for me though, so I guess practicing is in my future!
2 – Pride and Prejudice
While I was drinking aaall the peppermint tea and trying to will my cold away, I got in some solid reading time with one of my favorites. If you haven’t read Pride and Prejudice, oh man, you just simply must. No way around it.
I often hear debates about which version of the various movie adaptions is better (hint: it’s the six-hour one with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, just sayin’), but above them all will forever stand the original.
Jane Austen’s wit and subtle humor makes this book a page-turning classic that doesn’t disappoint. I only wish she had been able to finish more novels in her lifetime!
3 – The Best Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies from Lindsay at Pinch of Yum
(photo from Pinch of Yum)
So I apparently bake really small cookies. I don’t even try to make them small, but I always tend to get comments like “your cookies are always so nice and small” or “oh I love bite size cookies!”.
Look folks, I’m just doing as Betty Crocker instructed me. How else do you get 48 cookies from a recipe with 1 stick of butter (does anyone else know what I’m talking about here? Maybe I’m the only one with the vintage cookbook?)
Seriously though, if (like me) you haven’t baked giant cookies before, this recipe is chocolate chip cookie gold. Make them, eat them, maybe make them again. I won’t judge.
4 – VACATION
Glorious, couch-sitting, walk-taking, food-eating, movie-watching, book-bingeing, VACATION. It’s been a great week.
I love my job, and the many things that occupy the other hours throughout the week, but there is something so necessary and refreshing about totally unplugging.
We ended up heading out to a nearby park once I was feeling better, and being outdoors was great.
Peace, quiet, and time to just think. I’m sad vacation is coming to a close, but I’m refreshed and ready to tackle whatever the coming months hold.
Well, I think that wraps it up for my Friday roundup, so have you taken a vacation recently? What is your favorite way to unplug and recharge? Share with me in the comments!
