As someone who has a pretty limited budget to use on fashion, I have gotten used to mixing and matching what I own. That translates into keeping a lot of “basics” on hand, because they go with everything! After trying the #unfancyremix, I was even more inspired to mix and match, and I thought I’d share of few of my favorite fall pieces here.
I love the idea of capsule wardrobes, and while I don’t follow the concept religiously, I really try hard to make sure that all my pieces work well together to form a cohesive closet at a manageable size. I also try to buy quality over quantity and purchase pieces that I believe have style longevity.
You will find this post helpful if you are searching for basics and want pieces that will mesh well with other things in your closet. I can think of so many ways to wear these pieces (and still come up with new outfits all the time). Having good basic pieces on hand is a great way to stay stylish on a budget AND avoid having to replace your entire wardrobe every season to scramble after the trends.
Flannel shirt: American Eagle (similar) | Just SO soft. This is great with jeans, a dress, under a cardigan, over a tee (as shown), and so much more. I wear it a lot of different ways, and I am hoping to pick up a few in this season’s colors when Cyber Monday hits (they are a little pricey when not on sale!). This shirt also has great style lines and avoids the boxy look.
Swing dress: Old Navy (exact) | I love the swing/t-shirt dress style. It’s so effortless and super flattering. I will happily wear this outfit every single day. Old Navy has this dress in several colors (including stripes and a cute pattern) so check it out.
Pendant necklace: Old, from Charlotte Russe | I’ve owned this necklace forever, and it’s a great way to show that things you’ve owned for years can still be used in a trendy way. A simple pendant is a quick way to amp up an otherwise basic outfit.
Chunky scarf: H & M (similar) | I have been wearing this on repeat all autumn long. This is another piece that is several years old, but I just can’t get enough. I pair this cozy scarf with my fleece zip-up on cool days, and it’s a perfect way to get another layer in without donning a heavy coat.
So there you have it! What are your favorite pieces to wear this fall??
