Pumpkin Spice Mix in a Jar

Make your own homemade pumpkin pie spice mix (also known simply as "pumpkin spice") with this easy recipe. My recipe allows you to make just the right amount to fill a cute jar for gifting--and I've included printable gift tags too! Use this spice mix for substitutions and in recipes like pumpkin bread, no-bake pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin pie, and more.

Servings 4 oz (1/2 cup)

  • 5 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons ground allspice
  • 2 teaspoons ground cloves

  • Measure out the ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves into a bowl. Reference the cheat sheet for 1 ounce, 2 ounce, and 4 ounce portions of the mix.
  • Stir all the spices together thoroughly.
  • Use a funnel and a spoon to pour the mixture into a 4 oz spice jar. If using a mason jar, you can just spoon it right in.
  • Seal the jar with an airtight lid.
  • For gifting, print the labels I've included in this post, cut them out, and attach them to the jar.

How to Customize Your Spice Mix:
If there is a spice you'd prefer not to use (allspice or cloves are usually the culprits if anything), just replace that spice with more ground cinnamon.
How to Use this Mix to Substitute for Pumpkin Spice in Recipes:
If your recipe calls for “pumpkin spice mix” or pumpkin pie spice mix”, just use this homemade mix in the same quantity listed in the recipe.
You can also streamline recipes that call for each of these spices separately. Just add together the quantities of all the spices in the mix and then add in that amount of pumpkin spice mix.
