DIY Princess Cards (with or without a Cutting Machine)
Learn how to make these sweet Handmade Princess Cards with or without a cutting machine. If you are looking for a fun princess-theme Cricut project, this is an excellent choice. Note that you can also make these cards without a cutting machine. They are ideal to use for handmade princess invitations for birthday parties.

One of my primary difficulties with my Cricut machine is finding great templates to use. A subscription to Cricut Design Space is a great option, but I have found that many templates I would like to use require an additional fee. I also don’t like to pay the subscription fee if I am only using my Cricut machine occasionally.
Greeting Cards with Cricut
These princess greeting cards are one of my favorite recent projects. I made them with an SVG file I bought from a lovely Etsy shop. I’m always happy to find templates I can use over and over again.
When I stumbled upon BlueberryPatterns on Etsy, I was overwhelmed by the adorable felt quiet book patterns that shop owner, Kimberly, had created. The patterns are originally intended for felt. You can cut them out by hand or (if the SVG file option is purchased) with a cutting machine.
The templates are designed as “quiet books”. These are soft felt books that are cut out and then glued or sewn together. They are excellent for quiet play. The pages can be opened and closed, and the accompanying mini dolls can move in and out of pockets and elements throughout the design.
My daughter and I made the dolls from felt first. Then we got the idea to try using cardstock and making cards for friends and family.
It worked great! All I did was make the template larger in Cricut Design Space. Then we cut out a huge variety of doll and dresses to mix and match.

If you want to try this too, I’ve outlined a quick step-by-step below of everything we did.
Supplies You Need
- Templates from BlueberryPatterns (see notes below; be sure to purchase the SVG files if you plan to use your Cricut)
- Cardstock in a variety of colors
- Pre-made greeting cards in desired size
- A cutting machine such as a Cricut to cut from the SVG files. Alternatively, you can cut them out by hand, without a cutting machine. I’ll include some notes on that below.
- Zig Glue Pens or similar
- Rhinestones or stickers, optional
The Template
To make these cutie princesses, you first need to purchase the template from BlueberryPatterns on Etsy. These templates are actually intended to make adorable felt quiet books. They are the cutest! But, the templates work perfectly with cardstock too.
Shop all the templates in the BlueberryPatterns shop on Etsy. If you want something that is not princessy, check out some of the other designs like Route 66, Pirate Island, Jungle, and the Nativity.
You can purchase a few different varieties, such as Princesses Only (also this second series), or Princesses with a Play Castle/House.
If you plan to use a Cricut, don’t forget to purchase a template set with the SVG files.
How to Make the DIY Princess Cards
Once you’ve purchased the templates, it’s simple to put these together!
Using your Cricut for the first time? You can search the internet and find great tutorials on how to get everything set up and cutting correctly!
If you’ve got a Cricut, simply open the SVG in Design Space and enlarge the cut files. They are only about 2″ to start, so I made them closer to 4″ completed. Once you’ve adjusted to the size you like, go ahead and start cutting.
Do make sure that you enlarge all pieces equally at the same time so that everything fits together correctly.
Cutting out with scissors? You can enlarge the templates by simply changing the printing size percentage when you print from your computer.
I chose to cut each piece out of a variety of colors of cardstock. That way I had a lot of choices for hair and dress colors. Swapping the cardstock colors and working through all the cut pieces can take some time. Plan for a few sessions to cut everything you want.
Cut the Pieces
Cutting the pieces by hand is doable, but it will be a little time consuming. I really preferred using my Cricut for this one!
Layer with Adhesive
Once you’ve cut all the pieces, it’s time to design the princesses. Arrange pieces as you like and then glue together
I use a Zig Two-Way glue pen. It’s a pen used often for scrapbooking so it won’t make the cardstock bubble and warp like glues will.
You could also use double stick tape, but that will be a little more fussy.
Add Jewels or Embellishments
After you’ve arranged the dress and hair and glued it all onto the doll and card you can begin to embellish. Add tiny cutouts of flowers, sparkling sticker gems, and/or stickers.
There you have it!
Other Things You Can Make
My daughter and I cut many of these dresses out in all different colors. We had fun making up a variety of princesses. This would be fun to do for a birthday party craft or even a small gift or stocking stuffer.
Try adding the princesses to bookmarks, using them as decorations for notebooks or scrapbook pages, or even just using them to play paper dolls. Lots of possibilities with these beautiful cutting templates!
